Shipping Supervisor

Description

As a Shipping Supervisor, you will lead the daily shipping operation and help ensure customer orders are loaded accurately, shipped on time, and handled safely and efficiently. You’ll supervise the Shipping team, coordinate truck schedules and deliveries, monitor department performance and equipment needs, and work closely with Scheduling, Sales, and other departments to meet customer commitments.

What You’ll Do

  • Supervise and support Shipping employees at both the plant and off-site warehouse to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient daily operations.
  • Oversee the loading of finished products to ensure orders are loaded accurately and prepared for shipment.
  • Coordinate with the Logistics Manager on transportation needs and delivery priorities to support on-time customer orders.
  • Attend daily scheduling meetings and work with the Plant Scheduler to coordinate customer requirements and shipping priorities.
  • Conduct regular production and safety meetings with department personnel.
  • Work closely with Sales and Customer Service to resolve delivery concerns and support on-time customer orders.
  • Coordinate with Specialty Sales and other departments to support the receipt and transportation of customer orders.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance for forklifts, dock plates, dock doors, and other shipping equipment.
  • Keep management informed of issues or situations that may affect shipping operations.
  • Address employee performance and conduct concerns in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Build productive working relationships with freight carriers and other transportation partners.
  • Review shipping schedules and recommend adjustments to improve cost, quality, efficiency, and customer service.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts within the Shipping department.
  • Support company safety, housekeeping, and operating standards.

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in shipping, logistics, warehousing, or a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience coordinating transportation, truck schedules, or freight carriers experience preferred.
  • Previous forklift or truck driving experience is a plus.
  • Experience using shipping, inventory, ERP, or transportation systems preferred.
  • Corrugated manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships while maintaining accountability for safety, quality, and performance.

What to Expect on the Job

This is a hands-on leadership role in a fast-paced manufacturing and shipping environment. You’ll divide your time between the office, where you’ll manage schedules, review shipping information, and coordinate transportation, and the plant floor, where you’ll support the Shipping team and monitor loading activities. You’ll regularly work around moving equipment, industrial noise, dust, and changing temperatures. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in designated areas.
