Job Description

As an Assistant Machine Operator, you will support machine operators in all aspects of the press operation, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set up slotting, feed, and die-cut sections on the machine according to proper setup techniques.
  • Assist the operator with other duties as needed.
  • Monitor board quality (e.g., loose liner, warp, dimensions, caliper, etc.) and report any quality issues to the operator. Sort as necessary to maintain machine productivity.
  • Work at the pace set by the machine operator.
  • Cross-train on other machines as necessary.
  • Be open to moving up the line of progression to operator, regardless of shift.
  • Complete necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Submit maintenance work orders to supervisors for needed repairs. Be proactive about equipment maintenance.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines and maintaining good housekeeping.
  • Assist operators in adhering to the production schedule. Recommend adjustments to optimize the schedule and meet cost, quality, and service goals. Report any scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Prior experience in the corrugated industry.
    • 6 months’ experience as a Flexo or DieCut Helper.
    • 6 months’ experience in the Press and Finishing Departments.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate percentages, measurements, volume, and rates.
  • Knowledge of high school-level math concepts.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions (written, oral, or graphic).
  • Ability to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of equipment design and capabilities, ensuring efficient operation.
  • Familiarity with product layouts and production specifications.
  • Understanding of product quality specifications and standards.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to high, precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
