From Intern to Hired: Sean Wright's Multi-Faceted Career

When Sean Wright first walked into the Pratt plant in Rockwall, Texas, he arrived with the mindset of a specialist. Having recently switched his major to packaging science, his vision for his future was linear: he was going to be a designer. He admits now that he had little to no understanding of the vast complexity of the corrugating industry, but that narrow focus didn't last long. During the first few months of his internship, Pratt leadership moved Sean through a rotation of design, sales, production, and quality departments. It was this intentional exposure that sparked his "aha moment." Sean realized that there was a world of impact available to him far beyond the drafting table, noting that the experience helped him see he could influence a variety of departments rather than just "designing boxes."

This transition from a student intern to a professional was fueled by a unique level of investment from Pratt’s leadership. Sean found more than just a supervisor in his General Manager; he found a mentor. This relationship remained a constant even after the internship ended, providing a seamless bridge into his full-time career. It is this culture of responsive leadership—where senior staff are tuned into the growth of the individual—that allowed Sean to build what he calls a "bank of knowledge" that he still pulls from today.

Now serving as a Technical Sales Representative, Sean’s role is the perfect culmination of that early cross-departmental training. His primary responsibility is serving as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) between Pratt’s manufacturing sites and his customers. It is a position that requires a deep understanding of how every department works together toward a common goal. Because Pratt invested in his training early on, Sean doesn't just manage a supply chain; he manages relationships with the expertise of someone who has seen the process from every angle. His journey from an intern with a specific interest in design to a professional who serves as the vital link between production and the customer is a hallmark of the Pratt Intern Program’s success.
