SALARY: $25.00 per hour
SUMMARY:
As a fully integrated member of the team, packaging interns at Pratt Industries have the opportunity to work closely with all members of our operations including the General Manager, Sales Manager, Quality Manager and Design Manager. Interns will lead projects and participate in activities to learn design, production, sales, and quality within the manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Spec generation and output for a variety of traditional packaging designs, to support local packaging sales opportunities.
- Shadow various areas of the operation to view and understand how our full cycle operation performs.
- Orchestrate any required testing to assure viability of packaging design
- Spend time on the manufacturing floor, learning how to run machines, learn production scheduling, and understand the flow of material through the facility.
- Partner with Quality and Safety team in the Corrugator to identify areas of improvement.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow safe practices at all times
- Perform continuous assessment of product quality
- Assist team to resolve operating problems with process, maintenance, and plant engineering support
- Conduct statistical studies for operation review
- Update and maintain Process Safety Information (PSI) such as P&ID’s and PFD’s, and Safe Operating Limit Documentation (SOL’s)
- Must learn to quickly analyze data
- Assist in writing standard operating procedures and training manuals
- Provide engineering support to other departments as needed
- Present to the department periodically and at the end of the internship
- Any additional duties as assigned.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in Chemistry, Paper Science, or Engineering related degree
- Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Must possess a spirit of curiosity and willingness to learn and grow
- Needs to be self-reliant, be self-directed, take initiative to move forward with ideas, be committed, and be able to work with and influence others.
- Local candidates preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS-
The candidate must speak and write English at a college level.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS-
The candidate must be able to understand and use simple conversions and algebraic formulas.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Manufacturing environment and will be subject to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and loud noises.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
