SUMMARY -
The Chemical Technician works alongside the Chemical and Production teams in order to oversee the management, performance, and optimization of all chemical systems to enhance safety, quality, and operational excellence, while contributing to our company's vision of sustainable innovation. This role has a primary focus on the day-to-day operations of the chemical department including accepting product deliveries, inventory management, preventative and unscheduled maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES -
The Chemical Technician’s primary responsibilities as part of the mill operational team include, but are not limited to:
- Maintaining safety standards in the chemical areas
- Maintaining chemical delivery systems and safe product handling
- Maintaining a clean and organized department
- Conducting preventative and unscheduled mechanical maintenance
- Monthly on-call rotation participation, once adequately trained
- Work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a fast-paced environment
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS -
- 2+ years in a manufacturing environment, paper industry experience preferred
- Mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of tools
- Ability to drive a fork truck in a cramped environment
- Basic computer / excel skills
The candidate must be able to use their knowledge of papermaking and chemistry to solve process, equipment and quality problems. This knowledge can be taught on-the-job to anyone willing to learn.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS -
Employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear.
Employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT -
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This is a hands-on role in a standard production environment.
