POSITION TITLE: Sales Intern

REPORTS TO: Sales Manager

SUMMARY

Pratt Industries’ Internship Program is a comprehensive program. Our goal is to expose a student to the industrial / distribution / manufacturing / sales market.

Our program will expose you to a potentially successful career in packaging. Our plan is to share access to our training program for our current field sales organization. Over the internship, you will be exposed to manufacturing, quality, customer service, shipping, safety, and most importantly…our customers and potential customers. Ultimately, our goal is for you to realize that experience, reference points, and knowledge is what consummates a successful sale and customer satisfaction.

Understanding our core business as Plant – Converting Plant AND traveling with and supporting our sales organization through market research and development of value propositions will be the highlight of this internship. After approximately 3-4 weeks, you will spend about 70-80% of your time on Customer Service (understanding specs, entering and transferring in our new system) and 20-30% traveling with our Sales Team on commercially centric activities.

Goals of the internship:

  • Develop intentional learning objective goals that are structured into the experience and supervised by a professional. You will be assigned a leader who will guide you, provide weekly feedback and direct you to activities to work on during your internship.
  • Promote academic, career and personal development by exposing you to real life – business situations, interacting with people and technology.
  • Include learning objectives, observation, reflection and evaluation by educating you on how the Packaging business work all the way from what customer needs, how to design, understand costs, how commercial decision are made, utilization of systems involved, logistics and customer satisfaction evaluation.
  • Balance your learning goals with the organization’s needs through practical experience.
  • Involve industry related and soft skill development by showing you how our business operates.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED

Two years outside selling experience or related experience or college course work

Valid driver's license, safe driving record, and ability to drive

Willing to train to gain experience in the corrugated box industry with Pratt Industries

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as sales reports, operating instructions, and training and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak and communicate clearly and effectively. Bilingual preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, costs, proportions, percentages, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear, stand, and sit. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Able to move materials on pallets at Pratt and VMI location and stock stations with said materials.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

In addition, the employee frequently drives to and from customers and prospects and may experience hazardous driving conditions.
