Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with company and government regulations. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to conduct safety training at all levels, and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety within the plant.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-year college degree. 4-year degree in a Safety/Environmental or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in safety management within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safety Program Management: Develop, implement, and oversee company-wide safety programs. Lead safety inspections, meetings, and training sessions.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions. Including: Valve Inspection, Sprinkler/Fire Hydrant System, Emergency Lighting, Fire Extinguisher program, AED inspection, Eye wash stations and SDS program.
  • Training & Orientation: Conduct safety training for new hires and ensure ongoing training for all employees. Lead specialized programs, such as: Hearing Conservation, Haz-Com, LOTO, Bloodborne Pathogens, Forklift Safety, Safety footwear, and First Responder Training.
  • Provide training and resources to employees on safety practices, emergency preparedness, and compliance requirements
  • Incident Management: Report and investigate safety incidents. Involve appropriate personnel and maintain thorough documentation. Follow up with corrective action.
  • Develop and manage an incident response plan. Flexibility outside of normal working hours may be necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain safety documentation, reports, and records as required by regulatory agencies. Report and manage OSHA 300, 300A, 301 documentation.
  • Complete first response reporting to Corporate Workers Comp. Assist in filing workers compensation claims, manage light duty program, and provide first aid care when appropriate.
  • Facility Management: Oversee fire protection systems, conduct inspections, and provide necessary training. Maintain Pest Control Program records.
  • Serve as the liaison between the site and corporate for policy updates, safety issues, and environmental compliance. Communicate with government agencies as required.
  • Environment aspects may be inherited into job description following initial Safety Responsibilities are fully engaged.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned by management.

Language Skills
Able to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes. Ability to write business reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees and outside officials to the company

Mathematical Skills
Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills
Individual must have a working knowledge of the following:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides and Gmail).
  • Product layouts and production specifications
  • Product quality specifications
  • Quality standards

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

May be required to maintain a current 10 Hour OSHA Course (Minimum)

This role requires frequent movement between an office setting and a non-climate controlled industrial environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
